How it all works...
The request for a Web page is sent from your computer to a satellite about 22,000 miles above the earth. The satellite's rotation matches the earth's, so the satellite always remains in the same spot.
The satellite then contacts our Network Operations Centre which locates the specific website you have requested. The website then sends the information back along the same path to the Network Operations Centre, then to the satellite and then to your computer through your satellite dish and modem.
Although the signal travels a great distance, there is only a fraction of a second delay during this transmission. This is called latency. In most cases, latency isn't apparent while surfing online, however, we do NOT recommend this type of internet access if you play real time games online.
Once your satellite dish and modem are set up in your home or business, connecting to the Internet via satellite is simple.
Now connect your internet phone(s) to your modem or router and you can make voice calls over the internet at the same time.

Most satellite broadband solutions work on Ku band communications, but ours operate on Ka band. Why?
Ku band has been around for around 40 years, and has been mainly used by broadcasters and Governments because of the high costs involved.
It was a great option for these users because it was very reliable, would work literally anywhere and there was a fairly limitless supply of bandwidth in the sky across most countries and oceans. The problem was that for small companies and home users the whole thing was very expensive.
Like most important technology satellite broadband progressed rapidly, and the boffins came up with a way of using a different set of frequencies for satellite communications; those running in the Ka band spectrum. The cool thing about Ka band is that it enables the satellite operators to transmit around ten times as much data over the same satellite capacity as Ku band. The equipment used could be much smaller and cheaper, and was much easier to set up.
This meant for the first time satellite broadband could be made available at a manageable price for consumers and small businesses. The kit could be self installed if you were handy with a screw-driver, the kit was small and light.
